Obtainium (ob’ tayn ee um) n.
found objects, rejected history…objects doomed for bulk pick-up, to be ever entombed in human unwant.
I am inspired by their potential stories and moved by these object’s beauty. They become a homogenized whole - bringing their own bits of history to each piece, a wise seasoned life. |

“Patrolling the streets for obtanium,
rejected history, a rescuer of wayward
objects doomed for bulk pick-up, to be
ever entombed in human unwant. I am
moved by these object’s beauty and desire
to rehabilitate their burning embers.
Changing them to adapt to a new function in this ‘modern’ life, I help them to have a rehistoric comeback, to stand tall. They become a homogenized whole –
bringing their own bits of history to each
piece, a wise seasoned life. When we see A Vessel’s………… Vessel,Vessel, Obtainium,
these objects of everyday life that have been 36” x 32” x 30”, 2003
discarded and reconjuvinated, I hope that
preconceived notions of that particular
object having one function can be discarded. That today and in the future it becomes
ever more important to make best use of our valuable resources. It is most important
to me be resourceful for the survival of our children. Let us all join elbows and help
evolve this gene of the future.”
